Hello Friends of the Road,

It is now officially Fall, and our extended dry and warm Summer is now behind us. I hope no one had any flooding earlier this week and hopefully, Hurricane Joaquin will get lost in the Bermuda Triangle! Well our old road has survived many storms and I have no doubt it will survive this one too.

I have some sad news for those who have been involved with the CPRA for a while. I regret to inform you that Susan Hunter has passed away. I may have been in her presence before, but never had the pleasure to have any conversation with her. From what I understand, she was a former board member and great friend to the CPRA. I’m sorry for those who knew her well. I have not been able to find any obituary, but was given this information:

A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, November 8th at the Springfield Unitarian Universalist Church on Fairground Road, Springfield (Behind the Middle School) at 3:00 p.m. for former Crown Point Road Association board member Susan Wickendon Hunter of Weathersfield VT. Susan died Wednesday afternoon September 23, 2015 at Amherst Massachusetts from the effects of ALS.
Susan was born in 1948, the daughter of Mr & Mrs Richard Wickenden. Her husband Graham Hunter died in 2011. Susan was an enthusiastic hiker, and led several CPRA outings throughout the years. She was employed as a teacher at Springfield Middle School until her retirement in 2012. She is survived by two sons Matthew of Montreal and Patrick of Amherst MA.

The only official event left on the CPRA calendar for the year will be the annual meeting. I will be there for sure and may even make a speech. Ok, I may have a word or two. But that constitutes a speech for me! Below is the info about the upcoming meeting. I hope to see a good turnout this year!

October 18, 1:00 pm – On Sunday the 18th, the CPRA annual meeting and potluck dinner will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Springfield located at 21 Fairground Road. After general discussion, the guest speaker will be Jess Robinson, Vermont State Archeologist. His presentation will be Documentation and Perspective During Periods of Occupation in the Champlain Valley. Given the relationship between the track of the Crown Point Military Road and ancient Native American trails, this should be of interest to our group. Bring your place setting and a dish to share. The public is welcome to the meeting and/or the lecture. For more information, call Jim Rowe at (802)434-7415
