Friends of the Road Newsletter 2020-11-25

Hello Friends of the Road,
Tomorrow may not be a typical Thanksgiving Day, but the one thing that shouldn’t change, is being thankful for what we have. That should never change!

Another thing that can’t change is HISTORY. Even though some may change how they view history, the ACTUAL history will never change. Speaking of which, I’ve heard there was efforts back in 1759 to put in a military supply road through what today is Vermont. And that is how we got our first Interstate Highway.

Recently the CPRA board of directors met to begin planning the 2021 outings. I don’t recall a year when we had so many ideas! We’ll have to narrow them down unless we have some in the snow! In a couple weeks we’ll meet again and get the calendar on more solid ground. It does look like we’ll have some fun for sure! Our previous meeting was held virtually using Google Meet. It was an historic first for the organization. It went surprisingly well. Communication was effective and it may even motivate us to meet more often! Without the travel time, it felt like we got more accomplished in the time we spent.

I recently came across an old article about the CPR. I’m not sure if there is any copyright violations with me sharing this, so please don’t turn me in! The magazine is now unfortunately out of business, so I don’t expect issues with sharing the article. It was printed in the Autumn 1999 issue of the Vermont Life. Attached is a PDF copy of the article. Enjoy!

In case you have some free time on your hands and want to watch a video, I’ve got one to share. It is a recording of the recent business meeting during our Annual Meeting. Perhaps Netflix has a show you’d rather binge watch, so it’s ok if you pass on my offer. But I know some of you are hard core “Roadies”, so I thought I’d post it for those people. In closing, I’d like to give a sincere thanks to those who helped the cause with flag duties with the roadside markers. You deserve some extra rations for that!

Cheers!
