The Bayley-Hazen Military Road Car Tour on May 19th was a lot of fun and it was a gorgeous day for it despite threat of rain. That rain managed to hold off until we were packing up. Sometimes Nature cooperates. The Bayley-Hazen is still very much remembered and much of it still survives under its original name. It was built to help get supplies and people up to Canada, but then they realised that it would mostly allow the enemy an easy way in when they didn’t have really a lot of people going up that way. So they abandoned the project. Not before some towns suffered for the “help.” It’s a very interesting story. While it was a bit outside of the CPRA’s typical domain, it is related in that it was also a military road (like the Crown Point Road) and had a neat history. And of course we love history!
The full enchilada.
