Hello Friends of the Road,How are you all doing today? I know the weather hasn’t been as warm as we’d like, or as sunny as we’d like, but Summer is coming! Or at least the calendar says it is.
For those who want to visit one of Vermont’s finest museums, I’ve got a great deal for you. Thanks to CPRA historian Tom Hughes, the Shelburne Museum is offering a 1/2 off admission day on May 17th to celebrate International Museum Day. And for those adults with a valid VT drivers license, you could cut that to 1/4 of the normal price, which would be only $7.50!
If you’d allow me to put on my marketing hat now, let me share the latest info about our bus trip this summer. I’ve attached a poster to promote the event. Please feel free to share it with anyone that might enjoy attending. If you have any questions about the trip, please let us know. It should be a great time and a most educational day.
In case our bus trip doesn’t interest you, or you can’t attend, well I’ve got information for another bus trip! This one is not officially a CPRA event, but our president Jim Rowe will be assisting the tour. You can read all about it here: http://americashistoryllc.com/2019/evacuation-1777-the-mount-independence-military-road-to-hubbardton-september-20-2019/
For those who aren’t regular readers of the Rutland Herald, here is a link to a recent story about some graves of Revolutionary War veterans that were honored in Ira. By now, most of you should have received your mailing by now. We always welcome any feedback you may have or suggestions for future mailings.
Our first outing is coming up quickly, as today is the 1st day of May. Here is the official write-up for it:
- May 11: The first outing of the year will be a guided hike on a portion of the original route of the Crown Point Road. Participants will explore from the former Dean Farm to the Bresee Mill Brook, located near CPR Marker #47. Meet at the Brandon Post Office at 1pm. For more info, call Jim Rowe at (802) 434-7415.
So if you itching to get out and shake off that winter dust, I hope to see you in Brandon on the 11th.
Cheers!Dale ChristieCPRA Secretary (of Defense)
