Hello friends of the road!
If you’re like me, Labor Day weekend can be of mixed feelings. Sure it is (hopefully) a holiday for all of you, but it also means back to school, and a foreshadowing of colder weather to come. Although this week sure has felt like summer huh? I’ve got some propaganda to share with you in this edition of the Bumpy Road Newsletter. The first is a reminder of an upcoming CPRA event that is part of the Vermont Archeology Month schedule. Here is the scoop:
September 27, 1:00 – 3:00 pm – Vermont Archeology Month Event – On Sunday the 27th, Stephen Zeoli will use the historic “Wintersmith” map as a guide for exploring Mount Independence as it was in the summer of 1777. Discover sites shown on the map that still have traces of the military road visible today and view some Revolutionary constructions not documented by Wintersmith. $5.00 for adults, free for children under 15. 1. According to a public event listing in the Sept. 2-8 edition of Sam’s Good News: The Ann Story Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will publicly RE-dedicate the Green Mountain Boy statue in Rutland’s Main Street Park to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the original dedication. 5:30 p.m. on Friday, September 11.
2. According to the ATTACHED page, there is a one-time-only special FIVE FORMIDABLE FORTS (of the Lake Champlain Narrows) tour on Saturday, Sept. 12, starting on the east bank of Lake Champlain at 10 a.m.
3. According to an event listing in the Sept. 3 edition of the Addison County Independent, the Bristol Historical Society hosts retired high school history teacher and long-time re-enactor Jim Ross who will speak on the French and Indian War. 7 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 17 in Bristol’s Howden Hall.
